Shining Lights is...

A unique, experiential, semester-long leadership development program for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, designed to build community and facilitate career success.

Open to all candidates with a demonstrated interest in issues around gender representation and leadership in their chosen fields, the program aims to enhance career success and promote gender equity in the mathematical and physical sciences.

Program content fosters:

The Shining Lights Program equips participants with essential skills for successful careers in science through leadership skill building, coaching, networking, and mentoring.

Program participants can anticipate a commitment of approximately one day every two weeks.

This program is open to advanced graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley, or equivalent areas at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who demonstrate interest in issues around gender representation in their fields.

Program activities are centered around the core competencies of the program: Leadership Skill Building, Coaching, Networking, and Mentoring.
